INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Transylvania men's lacrosse team will take on the Washington and Lee University Generals in Lexington, Virginia in an NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament second-round matchup this Wednesday, May 9.
The matchup, revealed live on Sunday evening on the NCAA's tournament selection show, will send the Pioneers to the home of Washington and Lee, regular season champions of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
Wednesday's NCAA Tournament battle marks the first-ever matchup between Transylvania (12-6, 10-1 Ohio River Lacrosse Conference) and Washington and Lee (14-4, 9-0 ODAC) at Wilson Field in Lexington, Virginia.
Transylvania advanced into the NCAA Tournament by winning the ORLC Conference Tournament on Saturday over Saint Vincent College, 12-2. The conference awarded an automatic qualifier to its tournament champion for the first time in 2017. The Pioneers have clinched both bids and have won the last four tournament championships.
Despite falling to Lynchburg College in the ODAC Tournament semifinals, the Generals captured an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament by posting a 14-4 season, including an undefeated run during conference play.
A storied program, Washington and Lee will be making its 20th NCAA Tournament appearance in program history when it plays host to Transylvania, making its second appearance in its program's sixth season. It will be Washington and Lee's first NCAA Tournament berth in two years.
A scheduled face-off time between Transylvania and Washington and Lee is to be determined on Monday.
