Transylvania University Selected by Coaches to Win Men's ORLC Title

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Transylvania University was selected as the preseason favorite for the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) season, according to the 2018 ORLC Men's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches' Poll, which was released Friday along with the league's players to watch list.

The Pioneers and head coach Terry Justice received nine of a possible 11 first-place votes and totaled 116 points.

Transylvania finished the 2017 season 13-4 overall and posted a 7-0 league record.  The Pioneers captured the third ORLC men's tournament crown with a 12-1 win over Saint Vincent.

Transylvania is followed by Saint Vincent in second, which claimed one first-place vote and accumulated 104 points. Washington and Jefferson totaled 94points to finished third, followed by Thiel College in fourth (87), Hanover in fifth (68), Grove City in sixth (64), Westminster in seventh (63), Chatham in eighth (48), Bethany College in ninth (40), Mount St. Joseph University in tenth (22), and Earlham College (20) rounded out the poll.

The 2018 ORLC Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament will feature a four-team field, with the high seed hosting each tournament match. On Wednesday, May 2 the two conference semifinals will take place on the campus of the high seed. The tournament's title match will be contested on Saturday, May 5.

For the second year in a row, the winner of the men's championship tournament will receive one of just 24 automatic qualifying bids to this year's NCAA Division III Lacrosse Championship. The 34-team championship bracket is scheduled to be announced on Sunday, May 6 with first round games scheduled for Tuesday-Wednesday, May 8-9. 

The 2018 season will get underway on Saturday, February 10.
